Curriculum

  • 3-30-2011

Today's toddler student at BNS knows what to expect from class each and every day. The routines become comfortable and reassuring, reinforcing interpersonal skills and creating a solid platform for knowledge-based and motor-skill development as the year progresses. These class curriculums were designed for age-appropriate exploration.

Music

All students at BNS receive music classes once a week during the school year.

The students will be introduced to various forms of creative drama, puppetry, instruments, music appreciation, signing songs, listening skills, plus basic music and movement activities appropriate to pre-schoolers. The music program will stir curiosity, invite experimentation, develop self-awareness, encourage self-expression, promote self-worth, build a repertoire of fun songs and unlock some creative dramatic expression. Hopefully even the shyest children and those most unsure of music expression will find something in which to experience a sense of accomplishment.

The music program, which includes movement and creative drama, begins in the fall with familiar songs and activities easily mastered and enjoyed. Around the first of the year we begin our more complex music, movement and creative drama activities. This gives the children a chance to settle into routines, to understand the basics of expression through voice, body movement and original composition, and to explore the very wide spectrum of music through sound, rhythm, pitch, and tone quality.

We shall explore the musical world with tambourine and tone block, bean bags and bells, parachute rhythms and percussion bands, singing softly and banging a drum, plodding as elephants and prancing as elves. We will learn about music, movement, dance, and drama and have fun doing it!

School Calendar

Classes meet from September through early June. Holidays and snow-days coincide with those of Montgomery County public schools.
