Students entering the three day three-year-old class are becoming acquainted with a longer school week and meeting new friends in a larger class. The children attend school on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 12 noon. They are developing a greater sense of autonomy and self confidence. Their classwork expands on the discovery of the natural world through literature and exploration. There is an emphasis on motor and languague development.

Math

  • Recognize basic shapes: square, circle, rectangle, triangle, oval
  • Use math vocabulary – size, shape, quantity
  • Perform one-to-one correspondence (one cup per chair, etc)
  • Order by size
  • Count to ten; begin to count to 20 and recognize some numbers
  • Use the calendar and start awareness of time

Language Arts

  • Express oneself to adult to satisfy one's wants and needs
  • Begin to converse with peers
  • Use appropriate speaking voice and volume
  • Begin use of manners in expression – please, thank you, may I have, etc.
  • Recognize one's name in print
  • Work on repetition of stories and sequence of events in stories and explore books
  • Begin to describe observations using appropriate terms – large/small, rough/smooth, etc.
  • Increase vocabulary

Science and Music

  • Identify seasons and their characteristics
  • Begin understanding of plant growth
  • Begin understanding of healthy foods and value of exercise, etc.
  • Explore magnets, scales, magnifiers, and other scientific tools.
  • Begin exposure to solar system and our existence on earth
  • Begin exposure to animals, fish, birds and some of their habits/characteristics
  • Explore music and repeat sounds, beats, and songs and use simple instruments
  • Follow safety rules and begin exposure to accident prevention

Social Studies

  • Follow classroom rules
  • Show respect for others and observe personal space
  • Begin exposure to jobs in community
  • Begin exposure to habitats and transportation
  • Begin exposure to holidays
  • Begin exposure to concept of historical time and families

Art

  • Explore various art media and progress in use of art tools, such as scissors, brushes, etc.
  • Name colors

Physical Development

  • Explore large and small-motor activities and work on skill progression and self in space
  • Name body parts and begin exploration of their function

Social/Emotional Development

  • Begin to respect others
  • Participate in group activities and take turns/share with increasing frequency
  • Begin keener interest in peer play and playdates
  • Take responsibility for some cleanup, care of equipment
  • Express feelings in appropriate manner and degree and increase self-control
